Anglo American Plc: 1 April 2013 to date:
Mark Cutifani was appointed Chief Executive Officer on 3 April 2013. He is a qualified mining engineer with 37 years of broad experience of projects, operations, marketing and finance. He has in-depth knowledge and broad experience in the mining industry. Mark is a non-Executive Director of Anglo American Platinum Limited and Chairman of De Beers Investments SA and De Beers SA.

AngloGold Ashanti: 1 October 2007 to 31 March 2013:
Mark was appointed Chief Executive Officer of AngloGold Ashanti, a global mining company based in South Africa. He developed an understanding of South Africa and was responsible for operations across more than 30 countries and 6 continents. He was also a Board member, Chairman of the Executive Committee and a member of a number of AngloGold's operating and strategic committees.

Mark has considerable experience in mining, having been associated with the industry since 1976 and a working knowledge of most of the commodities produced and sold. Prior to joining AngloGold Ashanti, he held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Vale Inco, a Toronto based company, where he was responsible for Vale's global nickel business. Prior to Vale's takeover of Inco he was Inco's Chief Operating Officer.

Prior to his Vale and Inco roles he held senior executive positions with the Normandy Group, Sons of Gwalia, Western Mining Corporation, Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines and CRA [Rio Tinto]. Mark is a mining engineer by training with several published papers and presentations. In his 37 years in operations, business development and corporate roles he has had line responsibilities across 6 continents, more than 30 countries producing more than 20 commodities.
