Ian Farmer – Former Chief Executive Lonmin PLC

Ian joined Lonmin (formerly Lonrho Plc.) as a recently qualified Chartered Accountant in 1986. During his twenty six year career with the Group he held a series of senior positions in London, Zambia and South Africa, culminating in his being promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 2008, a position he held until 2012 at which time he stood down for health reasons.

During Ian's time with Lonmin/Lonrho, the Group underwent a series of transformational transactions, evolving from a multinational conglomerate with an emphasis on Africa, into the world's third largest Platinum Group Metals mining company.

Ian's appointment as Lonmin Chief Executive in 2008 occurred at a difficult time for both the global economy and the Company itself. His tenure saw in a period of significant operational and financial restructuring. By 2012, the Company's headquarters had been moved to Johannesburg, operational health had been restored and the company was regularly achieving production targets and industry leading safety results.

Ian has served as an executive committee member of the South African Chamber of Mines and the International Council on Mining and Metals. He also served as President of the International Platinum Association and as a Non-Executive Director of Furuya Metals, a Jasdaq listed precious metals fabricator.
